Copies of crime and incident reports are available for purchase, provided you are directly involved in the case. Following the criteria outlined in the California Public Records Act (CPRA), we ask that you help us help you by completing the Request for Release of Police Records form. This will enable us to better research and locate your record.

Each report request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis for any CPRA exemptions. Turnaround time for a copy of a report may take anywhere from the same day review to as long as 10 days, depending on the nature of the incident. Most requests are generally reviewed within 48 hours. You will be called when ready for pick-up.

You may also bring your form to the lobby during regular business hours for assistance. Proper photo identification will be required at the time the record is released. Same day service will be attempted, however, because each report must be evaluated for California Public Records Act exemptions, it is always best to allow a week in advance for a copy of a record.

Juvenile Related Information: Per the Orange County Juvenile Records Releasing Order, law enforcement must adhere to the rules outlined regarding any case containing juvenile information. All cases which contain juvenile information must be referred to the Orange County Juvenile Court, via petition, for approval of the release of information.

In the event you have lost your citation, you should contact the Police Department business lobby about getting a certified copy of your citation.

An event log item, or call for service, printout is public information, with exception to any information not releasable per the California Public Records Act.

We invite any member of the public to review the log during business hours. The Public log is available for thirty (30) days only. Afterwards, all requests for a copy of an event log item must be submitted using the Request for Release of Records Information form.

Any public request for multiple event log items must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Payment for the time and research for the request will be required before the request is complied with.

Citation sign-offs are generally written for vehicle equipment issues eligible for correction. Any vehicle equipment that needs to be fixed, must be repaired professionally appropriate to the law.

What do you need? You must have your original citation available. The violation must be eligible for signing off.

Note: Just because the checkbox is marked ‘yes” does not mean that the Court will allow the law enforcement agency to sign off your violation. A corrected citation will be visually inspected by an authorized Police Department employee and a corrected citation will be stamped as approved.

Vehicles impounded or stored by the City of Westminster tow company(s) are subject to release fees from the police department. Vehicles will only be released during business lobby hours.

What do you need?

All vehicles will only be released to the Registered or Legal Owner of the vehicle with:

1. Proof of ownership
2. Valid driver's license
3. Valid vehicle registration
4. Proof of insurance

Vehicles impounded for reasons of a driver operating a vehicle on a known suspended, unlicensed or expired driver's license are subject to a thirty (30) day impound and a vehicle release fee of $375.00. Vehicles will only be released during business lobby hours.

What do you need?

All vehicles will only be released to the Registered or Legal Owner of the vehicle with:

1. Proof of ownership
2. Valid driver's license
3. Valid vehicle registration
4. Proof of insurance

In the event your vehicle has been repossessed, the finance company (legal owner) will advise you to respond to the local law enforcement agency to pay a repossession verification fee to the law enforcement agency. An administrative verification process is conducted by the local law enforcement agency to ensure that the vehicle was properly reported to Westminster Police Department at the time of the repossession.

What do you need? Be prepared to bring your vehicle information, picture identification, and the date and time your vehicle was repossessed.

Local clearance letters for criminal history verification are provided for those requesting a brief summary of their own local criminal history.

What do you need? Be prepared to bring a California issued photo identification. In order to qualify for this letter, you must provide proof of residency within Westminster for a minimum of six months. This letter only provides information compiled in Westminster. The requestor, if not yourself, typically provides an explanation of what information they need.

In accordance with FC 6389, a person subject to a protective order, shall not own, possess, purchase or receive a firearm or ammunition while that protective order is in effect and is ordered to relinquish possession to the local law enforcement agency or licensed firearm dealer. If an owner does not choose to sell the firearm, an annual storage fee for each firearm will be charged by the Police Department.

By law, any time you are arrested and booked into jail, you are subject to a jail booking fee upon conviction of the crime. All arrested individuals are provided a printed copy of this notification and are told of the service fee during and upon their release from jail. You may pay this fee online at Pay My Citation.
