Protecting Your Property: Proactive Approach

Many nuisance or criminal activities can be prevented by businesses and property owners taking a proactive approach to protecting private properties. Here are a few things businesses and property owners can do:

  • TAA (Trespass Arrest Authorization) Form
  • Post signs on your property such as "No Trespassing"
  • Do not leave empty cardboard boxes where they are publicly accessible
  • Do not leave furniture or chairs where they are publicly accessible
  • Do not feed or give money to non-patrons
  • Increase presence or implement private security measures
  • Secure trash enclosures
  • Reduce foliage that may be used as hiding spots for people/property
  • Ensure adequate lighting

When to Call the Police Department:

  • Criminal activity and/or the presence of drugs or paraphernalia
  • Loitering outside of establishments when not a customer (i.e. person has not purchased items from surrounding businesses)
  • Trespassing
  • Impeding access to businesses
  • Aggressive panhandling

 


 

CPU (Community Preservation Unit)

  • Abandoned shopping carts
  • Excessive trash, debris, and outdoor storage, other unclaimed property (On Public Property)
