The Westminster Police Department Community Academy is a FREE program designed to provide an in-depth look into the day-to-day operations of a law enforcement agency and its role in the criminal justice system.
Participants are invited to look behind the scenes in both classroom and hands-on format at the roles and responsibilities of police officer’s and professional support staff in each division, bureau, and unit of the department. The purpose of the Community Academy is to teach community members about the philosophy, policies, and guiding principles of law enforcement and ethical conduct governing police services in our community and to enhance and retain strong partnerships with Westminster community members.
The Community Academy is presented in three-hour classes held every Tuesday night over eleven weeks. Participants in the program will learn about:
- Patrol Operations
- Traffic Enforcement
- K-9 Officers
- Crime Scene Investigation
- Communications
- Special Weapons Tactics
- Crisis Negotiation
- And much more!
The Community Academy Instructors are comprised of Department executive command personnel, supervisors, veteran police officers, and professional support staff. By the end of the eleven weeks, students are given the opportunity to complete a 2-3 hour ride-along with a police officer. After completion of the program, each student graduates with a better understanding of how the Westminster Police Department serves our community.
